Code of Conduct

Our commitment

Kenya JUG is for everyone who writes Java or wants to learn it. We are committed to a harassment-free experience for every member, whatever their gender, age, disability, ethnicity, religion, appearance, background or level of experience.

What we expect

  • Be respectful and kind, in person and online.
  • Welcome beginners. Every question is a good question.
  • Give feedback on ideas and code, never on people.
  • Credit others’ work and respect their time.
  • Follow the rules of the venues that host us.

What we don’t accept

  • Harassment, intimidation or discrimination of any kind.
  • Offensive comments, images or jokes in talks, chats or slides.
  • Unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention.
  • Photographing or recording someone who has asked you not to.
  • Spam, unsolicited recruiting or selling in community channels.

Where this applies

At every Kenya JUG meetup, workshop and Java Connect KE, in university chapters, and in our WhatsApp community, social media and other online spaces.

Reporting a problem

If something makes you or someone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, tell an organiser at the event, or email kenyajug@gmail.com. We treat every report seriously and in confidence.

Organisers may warn, remove or ban anyone who breaks this Code of Conduct, from an event or from the community.
